Ephrem Jusino, age 40, of Brooklyn, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 17 by Nassau County Police for the incident which took place on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, in Hicksville.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, special ops officers spotted a black Nissan Altima with Pennsylvania license plates traveling westbound on Old Country Road at Duffy Avenue committing multiple traffic infractions.

The officers conducted a stop of the car occupied by two men, police said.

As part of the investigation, one officer requested the driver’s license and registration from the vehicle operator which he failed to provide. When prompted again for his identification, the driver, identified as Jusino, fled in the car at a high rate of speed, striking the officer in the foot and hand and proceeded to drag him several feet before leaving the scene, police said.

The injured officer was taken to an area hospital where he underwent treatment for his injuries. The officer has been out of work since the incident and has undergone four surgeries, police said.

Detectives located Jusino in Deer Park, in Suffolk County, on Wednesday and placed him under arrest. He was charged with:

  • Assault on a police officer causing serious physical injury
  • Leaving the scene of an incident with serious injury
  • Reckless driving
  • Aggravated driving without a license
  • Numerous traffic infractions

He will be arraigned on Thursday, Aug. 18, in Hempstead.
